NIGHT SCHOOL / FORMULATION
When did sleep become a contest to see who could put the biggest melatonin number on the bottle?
Three milligrams. Five. Ten. Extra Strength. Maximum Strength. Somewhere along the way, a complicated biological process started looking like a hot-sauce challenge.
The useful question isn’t whether melatonin is “good” or “bad.” It is why consumers were taught to treat the size of one number as shorthand for the quality of an entire nighttime formula.
You weren’t necessarily lied to. You were given an incomplete story.
Melatonin is involved in circadian timing. It is not simply a sedative whose value can be judged by asking which bottle prints the largest dose on the front.
That distinction is one reason Held At Night was designed around a seven-ingredient formula rather than a maximum-strength headline.
More of one thing isn’t the only way to formulate for nighttime.
Held contains 2 mg melatonin with valerian, chamomile, GABA, L-tryptophan, lemon balm and passion flower. That does not make the finished formula clinically proven, and we do not market it that way.
What it does give us is a different formulation philosophy: we didn’t ask one ingredient to carry the entire night.
